Overview
When you submit a new sub-merchant application, Adyen automatically attempts to verify the entity using the data provided in the portal. However, if the data is incomplete, outdated, or cannot be instantly matched with public records, additional documentation will be required.
To avoid delays in onboarding and payouts, please ensure any requested documents meet the specific criteria outlined below.
General Document Quality Requirements
Before uploading, ensure all documents meet these standards:
High Resolution: Text must be clear and legible.
Full Document: All four corners of the page/ID must be visible.
Valid Dates: IDs must be unexpired; bank statements or utility bills must typically be dated within the last 3–6 months.
Matching Data: The name and address on the documents must exactly match the information entered in the application portal.
Documentation by Entity Type
Depending on the nature of the business and the roles of the individuals involved, Adyen may request the following:
1. Individuals (UBOs, Signatories, and Sole Proprietors)
Photo ID: Passport, Driver’s License, or National ID.
Live Selfie Photo: For real-time identity verification.
Proof of National ID Number: Social Security card or equivalent.
Proof of Residential Address: Utility bill or bank statement.
Tax & Financial Proof: Individual Tax ID, Proof of Industry, Source of Funds, or Source of Wealth (for high-volume accounts).
2. Organizations (Corporations, LLCs, etc.)
Registration Documents: Articles of Incorporation or Business License.
Proof of Ownership/Signatory: Documents showing who owns the company and who is authorized to sign on its behalf.
Operational Proof: Proof of Industry, Proof of Address, and VAT/Tax documentation.
Financial Background: Proof of Source of Funds or Source of Wealth.
3. Sole Proprietorships
Constitutional Document: Business registration or "Doing Business As" (DBA) certificate.
Proof of Address: A document linking the individual/business name to their operating address.
4. Bank Account Verification
Bank Statement: A clear copy of a recent statement.
Must show: The Bank Logo, Account Holder Name, and full Account Number/IBAN.
What happens if a document is rejected?
If a document does not meet the requirements, you will see a notification in the portal. The most common reasons for rejection are blurry images, cropped edges, or a mismatch between the legal name on the document and the name on the application.
