1. Check Terminal Display Icons

  • Look at the top row of the terminal screen.

  • Ensure the expected connection icons are visible:

    • Wi-Fi symbol — if you're using a Wi-Fi connection.

    • ☁️ Cloud symbol — if using a Terminal API (TAPI) integration via cloud communications.

If either of these icons is missing, it's an early indication of a connectivity issue.

2. Access the Diagnostics Menu

🔘 For Non-Android Terminals (older menu structure):

  • Tap Admin Menu

  • Navigate to Network > Diagnostics

📱 For Android Terminals:

  • Go to Settings

  • Select Diagnostics

3. Run the PSP Connection Test

  • In the Diagnostics menu, select PSP Connection

  • Wait for the test to complete

  • Review the result:

    • Successful (Android) or ✔️ Green check marks (non-Android) = connection is good

    • Failed or ❌ red X icons = something went wrong (see troubleshooting below)

4. Run the Terminal API Test

  • Go back to Diagnostics

  • Select Terminal API

  • Wait for results

  • If the test fails, also check:

    • Local communications TLS test for secure internal communication issues

5. Run the Endpoints Test

  • Return to Diagnostics

  • Select Endpoints

  • The terminal will test four Adyen URLs

  • Review results:

    • ✅ All passed = good

    • ❌ Any failed = follow error-specific guidance below

🔍 Understanding PSP Connection Test Errors

If a test fails, subsequent steps often show ❌ due to cascade failure. Here's what each step means:

Test Step

Issue if Failed (❌)

Looking up host

DNS issue. Terminal can't resolve Adyen domains.

Connecting

Network issue. Could be:

  • Router malfunction

  • Internet is down |
    | Negotiating | TLS negotiation failed. Possibly due to:

  • Gateway is inspecting TLS traffic (wait or bypass)

  • Serious network/security issue (contact Adyen) |
    | Writing data | Outbound traffic is blocked by firewall/router settings. |
    | Receiving data | Inbound traffic blocked. Check firewall/router.

  • Note: If the overall test says No Error, and this is your first-time setup, you can ignore this error.|

✅ Interpreting Results

On Non-Android Terminals:

  • ✔️ = Step passed

  • ❌ = Step failed

On Android Terminals:

  • Successful = All tests passed (tap to view details)

  • Failed = One or more tests failed (tap for ❌ step-by-step breakdown)

If the customer continues to see ❌ errors even after checking the above, suggest they contact Adyen support or their IT team for firewall and network rule review.
