1. One-Time Password (OTP)

What it is:

  • A temporary activation key used when a new or reset terminal is first onboarded.

  • Links the terminal to the merchant account.

  • Expires shortly after being generated (minutes).

When itโ€™s used:

  • During first-time setup of a terminal.

  • After a factory reset.

Where to find it in Adyen Customer Area:

  1. Log in to the Adyen Customer Area: https://ca-live.adyen.com

  2. Go to Point of Sale > Terminals.

  3. Select the specific terminal you want to activate.

  4. Under the terminal details page, select Generate One-Time Password.

  5. Use this OTP during the terminal setup process.

2. Terminal Passcodes

What they are:

  • Static codes that control terminal functions and security access.

  • Unlike OTPs, these do not expire unless changed.

Common passcodes include:

  • Admin Passcode โ†’ required to access advanced settings (network setup, configuration).

  • Refund Passcode โ†’ required to process refunds.

  • Void Passcode โ†’ required to cancel transactions.

Where to find them in Adyen Customer Area:

  1. Log in to the Adyen Customer Area.

  2. Navigate to Point of Sale > Terminal Settings.

  3. Choose the terminal profile (applies to all terminals under that profile).

  4. Scroll to Security > Passcodes.

  5. Youโ€™ll see Admin, Refund, and Void passcodes listed here.
