1. One-Time Password (OTP)
What it is:
A temporary activation key used when a new or reset terminal is first onboarded.
Links the terminal to the merchant account.
Expires shortly after being generated (minutes).
When itโs used:
During first-time setup of a terminal.
After a factory reset.
Where to find it in Adyen Customer Area:
Log in to the Adyen Customer Area: https://ca-live.adyen.com
Go to Point of Sale > Terminals.
Select the specific terminal you want to activate.
Under the terminal details page, select Generate One-Time Password.
Use this OTP during the terminal setup process.
2. Terminal Passcodes
What they are:
Static codes that control terminal functions and security access.
Unlike OTPs, these do not expire unless changed.
Common passcodes include:
Admin Passcode โ required to access advanced settings (network setup, configuration).
Refund Passcode โ required to process refunds.
Void Passcode โ required to cancel transactions.
Where to find them in Adyen Customer Area:
Log in to the Adyen Customer Area.
Navigate to Point of Sale > Terminal Settings.
Choose the terminal profile (applies to all terminals under that profile).
Scroll to Security > Passcodes.
Youโll see Admin, Refund, and Void passcodes listed here.
