Understanding these transaction types helps you know when action is required — and when it isn’t.
🔎 Retrieval Requests
A retrieval request is a preliminary inquiry from the cardholder’s bank.
This happens when a customer questions a charge and the bank requests more information before deciding whether to escalate the case.
What this means for you:
No funds are withdrawn
No fees are applied
It is not a formal dispute
It may escalate to a chargeback if unresolved
Think of this as a “request for information.”
🚩 Fraud Notifications
A fraud notification is an alert from the card network or issuing bank indicating that a transaction has been reported as potentially fraudulent.
What this means for you:
Funds are NOT removed
No chargeback fee is applied
No formal dispute has been filed
No immediate action is required
Fraud notifications are informational alerts only.
⚠️ Chargebacks
A chargeback is a formal dispute initiated by the cardholder through their issuing bank.
When a chargeback occurs:
Funds are withdrawn from your account
A chargeback fee may apply
A response is required by the stated deadline
Supporting documentation must be submitted if you choose to dispute
This is the official dispute stage.
