In Adyen, the “skip signature” feature allows merchants to bypass the signature step during a point-of-sale (POS) card transaction—either based on configuration, card scheme rules, or specific transaction conditions.

This feature improves checkout speed and user experience, especially in low-risk or low-value environments like QSRs (Quick-Service Restaurants), transportation, or unattended kiosks.

Skip Signature in Adyen – Overview

When is the Signature Normally Required?

• For chip & signature cards (common with some American Express or international cards)

• When the cardholder verification method (CVM) for the transaction falls back to “signature” (e.g., no PIN entry)

• When no PIN is required due to contactless limits or fallback behavior

How the Skip Signature Feature Works

Adyen allows you to configure the terminal to automatically skip the signature step under certain conditions:

✅ Configuration Options

Always skip signature (if allowed by scheme)

Skip based on card brand rules (e.g., Visa allows skipping signature under certain transaction amounts)

Skip for low-value contactless (CDCVM) transactions

How to Enable Skip Signature in Adyen

1. Terminal Configuration:

• Set at the terminal profile level in the Adyen Customer Area

• Feature flag: skipSignature: true (or enabled through support)

2. Transaction Type Eligibility:

• Must comply with scheme and regional rules

• Not all transactions can skip signature (e.g., certain high-value or fallback scenarios)

3. Device Compatibility:

• Works on Adyen terminals (e.g., V400m, AMS1) that support contactless and/or chip functionality

Benefits

Benefit Description

Faster checkouts Removes friction for both customer and cashier

Improved UX Especially useful in quick-service or unattended environments

Reduced paper usage Often paired with paperless receipts

Important Considerations

Signature skipping must comply with card scheme rules; Adyen handles this logic behind the scenes

• For chargeback liability, signature may still be relevant in some disputes (rare with EMV)

• Skip signature is typically combined with “no receipt” or digital receipt options

Related Features

No PIN for low-value transactions (contactless tap)

Receipt suppression for unattended or fast environments

Standalone or semi-integrated POS configurations
