Sale with Tip (sometimes shown as a tip adjustment) means the final amount charged is different from the amount the customer first authorized, because a tip was added afterwards. It's common in restaurants, salons and other service businesses.
How It Works
Authorization: the customer's card is approved for the bill amount, for example $100.
Tip added: the tip is added to the payment, for example $18, making the total $118.
Capture: the final $118 is captured and settled. That's the amount the customer is charged and the amount included in your payout.
What You'll See in the ValPay Portal
Until the payment is captured, it may show the original authorized amount.
Once it's captured, it shows the final amount including the tip.
If you need to refund the payment, you can refund up to the full captured amount, including the tip.
FAQ
Has the customer been charged when I see Sale with Tip?
The customer is charged the final amount once the payment is captured. Before that, they'll see a pending hold from their bank.
Why does the customer see two different amounts on their card?
Their bank may briefly show the original authorized amount as pending before it updates to the final amount with the tip. This is normal.
