When you open a payout and click Export in the top right, you'll see two options, Export Payout Transactions and Export Payout Transfers. Both cover the same payout and both download as CSV or Excel, so it's really easy to mix them up.
The short version is the Transactions export tells you about each sale, like the card type, how it was taken, which terminal, and the fee breakdown. The Transfers export tells you how the money actually moved into your balance account to make up that payout, which is what you want when you're tying things back to your bank deposit.
Where to Find the Exports
Go to Payouts in the left-hand menu and select your store or merchant
Click any payout row to open Payout Details
Click Export in the top right corner
Pick Export As CSV or Export As Excel under whichever export you need
If you're a partner looking at one of your merchants' payouts, it works exactly the same way.

Export Payout Transactions
This is the one to grab when you have questions about the payments themselves. Every payment included in the payout gets its own row with all the detail about how it was taken and what it cost.
Use it when you need to match payments to your practice management or POS system, figure out which terminal a payment came from, check what card type a customer used, or see the fees on a specific transaction.
What's in It
Status, Transaction Date, Store Name, Tx Type tell you what the payment is, when it happened, and which store it belongs to. Tx Type will usually say capture for a sale
PSP payment reference, PSP modification reference, PSP merchant reference, Reference are the IDs you can use to look up a payment. Payments taken in the Virtual Terminal have a PSP merchant reference that starts with VALPAY-VT
Payment Method is the specific card product, like mcsuperpremiumcredit or visapurchasingcredit, and Funding Source tells you if it was CREDIT, DEBIT, or PREPAID
Terminal ID is the terminal the payment was taken on. It's blank for keyed in or online payments
Shopper Interaction is how the payment was taken. POS means the card was used on a terminal, Moto means it was keyed in like a phone or Virtual Terminal payment, and Ecommerce means it came through online
3DS Authentication shows whether 3D Secure was used
Settled Amount Currency, Exchange Rate, Payout Currency only really matter if you take more than one currency. For most accounts you'll just see USD and an exchange rate of 1
Settled Amount is the payment amount. Surcharge and Tip are already included in that number, they're just broken out so you can see them
Partner Split and Additional Commission show any amounts split off the payment
Variable Fee and Fixed Fee are the processing fees for that payment. Variable is the rate times the amount and Fixed is the flat per transaction fee
Net is what that payment contributed to the payout
Export Payout Transfers
This one is more of an accounting view. Instead of focusing on the sale, it shows every booking into or out of your balance account that adds up to the payout. If your bookkeeper or accountant is asking for backup on a deposit, this is usually the file they want.
Use it when you need to tie a payout back to the deposit in your bank account, hand off reconciliation data to accounting, or spot anything that was taken out of a payout like a refund or chargeback.
What's in It
Status, Booking Date, Store Name tell you when the funds were booked to your balance account and which store they belong to. Booking Date includes seconds and can be a little different from the Transaction Date in the other export, that's normal
Tx Type and Tx Category describe the kind of movement. You'll mostly see capture with a category of platformPayment for regular sales
Description is a system description of how the funds were split, like "Seller split" followed by a string of account IDs. You can safely ignore the IDs
PSP payment reference, PSP modification reference, PSP merchant reference, Reference are the same IDs you'll find in the Transactions export
Payment Method is just the card brand here, like mc, visa, or discover
Currency and Amount (signed) show the amount of each booking. Positive numbers are money coming in and negative numbers are money going out, like refunds or chargebacks
Using Both Together
Both files share the PSP payment reference, so if you need the full picture on something you can pull both exports and match rows on that column with a VLOOKUP or XLOOKUP in Excel. That way you get the sale details from one and the booking details from the other.
The totals in both files should add up to the net total you see at the top of Payout Details.
Common Questions
Which one should I send to my accountant?
Usually the Transfers export since it lines up with what hit your bank account. If they also want fee detail, send the Transactions export along with it.
Why does the payment method look different in each file?
The Transactions export shows the specific card product, like mcstandarddebit, while the Transfers export only shows the brand, like mc. It's the same card, just a different level of detail.
Why don't the fees come out of the Net amount in the Transactions export?
[CONFIRM] If your account is on monthly fee billing, the Variable Fee and Fixed Fee are shown for reference on each payment but they aren't deducted from your daily payout. They're collected separately at the end of the month, so Net will match the Settled Amount.
Why are the times a little different between the two files?
The Transactions export shows when the payment happened and the Transfers export shows when the funds were booked to your balance account. They're usually within a minute or so of each other.
